Things to do in the Limousin and the Correze

Your holiday accommodation lies in the Correze, the most southerly department of the Limousin region. This is an area renowned for its fresh clean air, its unspoilt countryside, and its abundant wildlife.  These combine to make it the perfect place for outdoors enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

TOURIST INFORMATION

Your local Tourist Office is just 8km away in the pretty medieval village of Treignac. Full information, maps and guides, on any of the activities and interests described below can be obtained there.  Not all of the information is available in English, so if you can't find what you're looking for, or would like some help with the language, please just ask us - we're happy to help!


OUTDOOR PURSUITS IN THE CORREZE

Walking, Mountain Biking, Horse Riding, Watersports, Paragliding, Fishing, Golf, Skiing - these are just a few of the activities available locally.  The Correze is the perfect place for you to explore, to play, or to try something new!


ANIMALS, NATURE, AND WILDLIFE

Here you will find not only the usual Wildlife and Nature Parks, but also more diverse natural interests - for example a Wild Wolf Sanctuary, a Bat Cave, an Insect Park... you really are spoilt for choice!


LAKES AND RIVERS IN THE CORREZE

The Correze has 5 main rivers, including the Vezere on which the annual International Slalom Kayaking Championships are held. We also have hundreds of lakes of all shapes and sizes, many hidden away in the courtyside just waiting to be discovered by you.  A must is a visit to the 4 km long Lac des Bariousses at nearby Treignac, with its lovely sandy beach, supervised swimming in summer, and watersports such as kayaking if you're feeling adventurous!


GASTRONOMY

Food, and the social nature of eating, are vital parts of Limousin tradition, and there are numerous cafes, bars and restaurants in the region to choose from.  There are also a raft of local farms and producers whom you can visit to sample the produce at its most fresh.  Your nearest restaurant to the cottage is just 5 minutes away in Le Lonzac, with yet more to choose from in Treignac, just up the road, or many more further afield.


ESPECIALLY FOR CHILDREN

Many of the other acitvities and days out described here are great family days out, but the region also has several parks aimed specifically at children:                             Children's Activity and Play Park - Limoges - aimed primarily at 2-10 year olds             Woodland Activity Park - Vassiviere - for adults, and children from 4 years old


HISTORY AND CULTURE

There are so many fascinating and historically significant places to visit here, including Oradour sur Glane, the martyred village destroyed during the second world war, or perhaps you will visit the Château de Chalus, the final resting place of Richard 1st (Richard the Lionheart), or the stunning Tours de Merle, the ruined 11th Century citadel.  There is something for everyone here.


TOWNS AND VILLAGES

The Correze is home to 6 of the designated most beautiful villages in France, all within an easy hour's drive from the cottage. Treignac is our local gem, only 8km away.  Our main local city, Brive-la-Gaillarde, is only 45 minutes away, with its charming cathedral, cobbled streets, boutique shops, and a plethora of cafes, bars and restaurants.  The regional city of Limoges is also only an hour away, and also well worth a visit for its porcelain heritage.


OTHER ACTIVITIES

Many people seek out new and different experiences on holiday - if that appeals to you why not consider visiting the workshop of the local Chocolatier (and sampling the produce!), or perhaps challenging yourself in the World's Largest MazeHot Air Ballooning and Steam Train Journeys are also available across the Limousin - a great way to see the area from a different perspective.
